stackbroshistory2Stack Bros. Mechanical Contractors, Inc. is a 124 year old Company that continues to serve the Duluth/Superior area including Northern Wisconsin, Northern Minnesota. The Stack family has been prominent in the Superior Business community since 1890 when William J. Stack and his brother John founded the company now known as Stack Bros. Mechanical Contractors, Inc. At the time the plumbing, heating and mechanical business was founded, Superior was growing rapidly and the two brothers started the plumbing and heating business to serve homes and the growing number of business facilities in the area.

The company moved from downtown Superior into a new location in April of 1995. The new location provided expanded space for fabrication, heavy equipment storage and space for the growing fleet of service vehicles. Stack Bros. also works with major food processors in boiler installation and repair work. The company also works with 23 school districts and all the major hospitals in the Duluth Superior area and their satellite clinics on plumbing, heating and mechanical construction, temperature controls, burner boiler and other equipment maintenance and retrofit.

In the Spring of 2013 Stack Bros started construction at a new company site. The new building more than doubles the square footage of the existing main company office and shop off Stinson Ave. The project was completed in 2014 consolidates all services at the new site on Hill Ave across from the Calumet refinery in Superior WI.

Our Projects

Stack Bros. commercial plumbing crews are involved in a broad range of plumbing projects from student housing projects at area universities; retail Super Centers and retail expansion projects; as well as area apartment, condominium and new home construction. Stack’s design build approach has always focused on energy efficiency improvement and sustainability. Stack Bros. achieves these goals by focusing on building control integration using when possible a mix of control systems and application that combines historical systems/products with digital integration. Our vast experience in retrofitting HVAC and plumbing systems has made us a leader in the areas we serve for both remodeling and retrofit of HVAC and plumbing systems. This focus is best defined by our involvement at the University of Minnesota‚Äôs Labovitz School of Business and Economics and the LEED construction methods implemented on the project.

Stack crews had a major involvement in the Mechanical HVAC systems for the recently completed Douglas County Metro Center. Other projects completed by Stack Bros. include hospital expansion in Cloquet, MN, multiple projects at the University of Wisconsin-Superior including Ross-Hawks Hall and Barstow Hall, the new Medical School at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, the chilled water system at UMD and the Solon Springs School as well as the new schools in Hayward, WI. Other area projects include the former City-County building renamed City Center in Superior WI, Superior Fiber Products, Superior Waste water Treatment Plant, the 2012 expansion of Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital, as well as re-piping and boiler replacements at many facilities such as hospitals, schools, industrial facilities, commercial buildings and churches.
